CHAIRMAN VOICES OPINION,

■Councillors present at the monthly meeting in Hawera to-day of the HaAvera County Council' Were: Messrs J. B. Murdoch (chairman), C. J. Preston, E. A. Washer, A. E. Death, W. Rothery, A. G. Larcom, J. Lander, T. A. Winks, arfd: the- county clerk (Mr J. W. Harding). Cr A. G. Larconu and Mr B. C. Lysaght were reappointed to represent the council on the south committee of the Egm'ont National Park Board. In the course of a brief discussion of the' affairs of. the Egmont, National Park Board the chairman asked why it ■was ithat application, had to be made so frequently to the Government for assistance. Was it due to'bad management that the hoard, could not keep expenditure within the limits of its resources? he asked. Cr. Larcom pointed out that the south committee did not have the same roacling difficulties as the least a,nd north which also were in need of funds.

““The chairman voiced 1 the opinion that all Government grants for the mountain resort should be shared by the three committees. .It seemed that the north committee, existed only for the north and the- south* committee had to fend as best, it could for itself. . Cr. Larcom: The south committee is fortunately in a better financial position than either of the other two committee's or the board, and it is jus afraid that the others might demand a share. That is why the south committee is pushing ahead with its. electric lighting scheme at Dawson Falls and so cofn'mit the money it has m band. No cases of infectious disease weie notified in* the county during the month. RUBBISH ON ROADSIDES. | In his report to the council the ranger an'd inspector (Mr C. E. Baker) stated that he had interviewed four residents of the Hawera borough in connection with the dumping of rubbish on* the county roads and leaving it unhurried. discussed and the engineer (Mr A. Muggcridge) wais instructed to proceed With the work when convenient. In reply to Mr Landers the engineer stated that Lysaght’s Road was receiving attention. Crs. Winks and Larcom and the engineer was appointed to inspect Morea Road with power to act in the matter of metalling the wheel-tracks. It was agreed that in future county employees -who do not attend the county picnic- forfeit their pay for that particular day. Gazette notice of the merging of Normanby suburban farm land with the county was received and' a sub-com-mittee: consisting of Crs. Murdoch, Washer, Winks and Larcom was appointed to review the annual subsidy allowed by the council to the Normanby Town Board for the maintenance of ma in highways.
