EARTHQUAKE INSURANCE
NATIONAL ACTION URGED.

The urgent need for setting up a national insurance fund for the purpose of providing money that might be readily available for those who suffer through an earthquake was stressed to the Hastings Borough Council last evening by the Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddisoim Propo.sals in this connection' are to. be submitted! by Mr Mad'dison to the Prime Minister during the municipal conferlenoe at Wellington next week. “I doubt,” said Mr Maddison,, 44 if unfortunately an .earthquake wrecked one of our cities and every building iu that city were covered, by insurance, whether the insurance companies would be able to meet the losses incurred.”. The council also expressed the opinion that there was need for having national uniformity in building regulations as a precaution against earthquake. -
