BUTTER.

During the week the butter market weakened, and some quotations were made at 695, hut- to-day’s cables show a steadier tone at 70s per cwt. A few f.o.b. offers have been made at u>p to Si]di per lb. This is equal to approximately 76s .per cwt landed terms, London. No sales have been reported. Average London retail prices are 9d per lb dor .Now-. Zealan- -butter, - a-nd Danish has been increased to Is per lb. London deliveries of New Zealand butter are again, in excess of corresponding -week in last year. Australian gradings continue to show increases over last season. For the week ending February 24 Sydney gradings were 500 boxes ahead of last year and reports show that good rains have benefited the pastures and production generally maintained in, New South Wales. Melbourne also shows a 5000 box increase and favourable weather in Victoria. In Queensland all dairying districts have had favourable rains, and the week’s gradings at Brisbane are over 6000 boxes in excess of last year’s returns. CHEESE. Again a slight easing in cheese prices is recorded, but markets are reported to be steady. .White is sixpence per cwt higher than last year, but the coloured premium is not so high. A few f.o.b. offers at up to 4|d per lb for small parcels have heeni made, but no sales are reported. This bid is equal to about 45s to 45s 6d per cwt London. Average London retail prices of New Zealand cheese is sixpence per lb. Gradings of cheese for week ending February 24 were- 21,126 crates white and 16,402 orates coloured cheese.
