CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

MEETING AT HAWERA. SERVICE AT POST OFFICE. The monthly meeting of the Hawera Chamber of Commerce was held at Hawera last evening, Mr E. K. Cameron presiding. Present -were Messrs F. IV. Horner. E. M. Ba.rdslev, E. R. S. Dale, B. C. Bennett, T. M. Ellis and P. Bond. Apologies for absence were receh'ed from Messrs. B. McCarthy and J. E. Campbell. It was decided to approach the postmaster at Hawera asking that a special clerk bo available at the office on pension days to facilitate tlie | transaction of general business. The question of the incorporation of the .chamber was discussed,. it being loft to a, general meeting otf members. It' was agreed to support the Wanganui Chamber in its protest against tbe increase in the affiliation fee to the associated chamber, and also to make representations that the fee he the same as last year. The secretary stated that so far the chamber had not received a reply from tbe Tourist Department in answer to tlie chamber’s protest concerning tbe alleged sidetracking of tourists from Taranaki, although . replies had been received by other Taranaki chambers who bad supported the action originally taken at . Hawera. The matter is to be brought before the notice of the department. Votes of thanks were accorded Messrs R. S. Sage and E. M. Bardsley for supervising work in connection with the Chamber of Commerce examinations at the Hawera centre.
