Mr H. J. Webber, who for the past 13 years has been manager of the Hawera Hospital Board’s farm, has been appointed, out of 223 applicants, a.s manager of the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Company’s pig farm, Whakatane.
Lord Baden Powell has left hospital, a London: cable reports. Lady Baden Powell says that he is progressing favourably and will not postpone his visit to New Zealand and Australia in November.
Members of the Hawera Municipal Band last evening tendered a farewell social to Mrs W. Haavkins, wife of the late secretary, who is leaving Hawera on Monday to reside in Wellington. Reference was 1 made to the services rendered to the band by Mrs Hawkins, and on behalf of the members Mr H. N. Lester, acting-chairman of the committee, presented Mrs Hawkins with a handbag. A bouquet was also presented by Mrs O. Pearce. Recent visitors to Hawera. who have been stay in-r at the White Hart Hotel include Mr and Mrs W. Piper. 'Mr W. Breinner Mr W. Carter, Mr and Mrs E. E. Tonics. Mr E. Harper, Squadron Leader T. M. Wilkes and Mr and Mrs R. O. Peterson (all of Wellington). Mr S. Dale the Rev. H. Legorate and Mrs Leggate (Manchester. England! Mrs Cl. Britton and Mr and Mrs E. M. Wenham . Mr E. A . Gibson and Mr and Mrs A W. Mills (Auckland) and Mr C. MclCane (Ohakune).
