OPUNAKE BEACH ATTRACTIONS
SEASIDE SOCIETY ACTIVITIES MEETING OF COMMITTEE (From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Opunake Seaside Society was held on Monday evening. There were present Mr O. O. Edmonds (chairman), Dr. Griffin, Messrs J. Barney, C. M. Clare, L. M. Stephenson, C. Williams, L. Brown, W. Haggett, A. Stone, D. Mc-Orone, H. Parke s, and S. M. Smith (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr T. P. Hughson. Mr Stone, who had waited on the Town Board in connection with several matters of the society, reported that requests for assistance in a camping ground, new roadway to same and shack sites had been met with in a cordial manner and every assistance was to- be -given. Mr Brown, on behalf of the subcommittee set up to remodel the children’s playground, ire ported that arrangements were progressing satisfactorily. The sub-committee set up to go into the question of arranging a queen carnival recommended that the project be held over -until after Christmas and that a, ball bo held in the interval. Mr Haggett was elected ball secretary. An offer from Mr L. Whiting for assistance was accepted with thanks. Messrs Scott and Barney were accorded a vote of thanks for their offer - of the full use of a ball, but regx - et wa-s expressed that the .society was unable to take advantage of the offer. A vote of thanks- was accorded Mr J. Wilson for a donation of £l. Mr C. Cameron was appointed caretaker of the -beach and Messrs Haggett, Smith and! Brown were deputed to draw up a schedule of the caretaker’s duties. SURE CLUB
The committee of the Opunake Surf Life-saving Club met on Tuesday night. There were present Messrs W. Haggett (chairman), P. Smith, B. S. Dudley, G. Trotter, <G. Cundy and S. M. Smith (secretary). The following were appointed club delegates to the Taranaki Centre of the N.Z.A.S.A., Royal Life-saving Society -and Taranaki Surf Association, Messrs Haggett, J. Clouston and fe. M. Smith. They were -instructed to nominate Messrs P. Smith, L. Brown arid B. S. Dudley as examiners for the surf awards, and also to move “that teams misbehaving in competitions be immediately disqualified” and “that the present rules for the Ballin Cup be redrafted.”
TOWN BOARD VACANCY
The vacancy on the Town Board caused by the resignation of Mr I. Hammond has been filled. Mr James is the new commissioner.
