EARNEST EFFORTS MADE

TALKS ON DISARMAMENT BUREAU TO MEET SHORTLY. PREPARATIONS BY MINISTERS. ACTIVITY OF FOUR, POWERS. (British Official Wireless.) Received 12.45 p.m. to-day. RUGBY, Sept. 29. Disarmament conversations are continuing in Geneva. There is some doubt as to whether Sir John Simon, who is taking a prominent part in them, will be. able to return for a few day 6 to London as contemplated. The bureau of the Disarmament Conference is due to meet in ten days’ time and earnest efforts are being made to secure some measure of agreement in advance of the meeting. Following ..conversations which were held yesterday morning with the Italian Ministers and later with Mr. Norman Davis (U.S.A.) he saw the German Foreign Minister iri the evening. The French Foreign Secretary has been in conference with the Italian delegates and importance is attached by newspapers to a meeting later between M. Paul Boncour and Baron Von Neurat-h. It was last night in Geneva stated that Baron Von Neurat-h, was returning to Berlin to consult his Government.

STOCK EXCHANGE AFFECTED. GERMAN BONDS IMPROVE. Received 1.15 p.m. to-day. RUGBY, Sept. 29. An outstanding feature on the Stock Exchange was a further substantial improvement in German bonds, Continental buying being induced on the more favourable reports from’ Geneva. The tone of the markets generally were good. Internationals were firm and British 'Government stocks were steady. MINISTER CONSULTS HITLER. ATTITUDE OF FRANCE. Received 2.i5 p.m to-dav. LONDON, Sept. 29. The “Sun’s” special correspondent at Geneva, says' Baron von Neuratli, the German Foreign Minister, had a consultation with Herr Hitler following France’s refusal to concede Germany’s request for a limited quantity of tanks, guns and war ’planes. Rearmament really replaced disarmament as the topic and it is now felt- that the Powers will not tolerate further delays. A convention must soon be signed to avoid a. complete breakdown.
