STINK BOMBS AT LONDON OBJECTION TO GERMAN ACTOR. BRITISH PERFORMERS WANTED. ORDER. RESTORED BY POLICE. (United Press Abaociation—3y Electric lekgrapß Oopyrigbt.) Received '1.50 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Sept. 28. Extraordinary scenes occurred on the first night of Gerhardt Hauptmann’s play “Before Sunset” at the Shaftesbury Theatre, when the famous German actor Werner Krauss made his first appearance in London West End. An outburst was accompanied by a flood of leaflets from the gallery, necessitating the lowering of the curtain several times. Stink bombs helped to make the auditorium like a bedlam, the demonstrators meanwhile shouting: “Down with Hitler! We will not let Krauss appear. We want British actors!” The demonstrations continued until the police were called in and the demonstrators were ejected from the Misses Joyce Bland and Peggy Ashcroft, who had borne the brunt or earlier disorders, were later cordially applauded.
