NGARUAHINE BEAT RAT ANA
FAST GAME AT MANAT A. I (From Our Own Correspondent.) A R.ugby match between Ngaruahine, holders of the Rintana championship rose bowl, and Rata 11a was played at the Manaia Domain on Wednesday afternoon in ideal weather, Ngaruahine winning by 28 points to 11. Play in the first spell was even, with both sides throwing the ball about freely, but in the concluding stages the superior combination of the home side was obvious. The teams were: Ratana.—K. Porete, W. Tuinu, T. Rio, P. Ratahi, P. Tamou (captain), T. Waitere, P Koroneho, T. Brueti, M. Henare, It. Waitau, T. Rawana, T. Paki, H. Hauparoa, P, Uruangina, H. Whenuaroa. Ngaruahine.—A. Bynon. J. King, G. Ngaia, Wineera, W. King, T. Robinson, D. Kara, Potae, W. Katene, W. lleneri, Rangi Ruru, Hikaka, T. Tamil, D. Tamu, I. Awahou.
Ngaia opened the score for the homo team with a fine try which Ruru converted. Ratana followed suit with a bright passing rush that ended when Brueti scored. Paki converted Ratana seemed promising at the opening of the second spell, and after some minutes in Ngaruahine territory was awarded a penalty kick, with which Koronolm goaled. The home team rallied and Ngaia equalised the scores with an easy penalty kick. Maintaining the pressure, Ngaruahine went deep into Ratana territory and Ruru scored, Ngaia converting. Ratana’s last effort saw Ratahi score a fine try .after a solo dash. The kick failed. Tui Robinson scored and Ruru converted, and Ngaia scored two more tries, Hikaka and Wineera■ missing with the kicks.' Mr. A. Elgar refereed.
