Broadcasting from Brookman Park was suspended for an hour while the staff fought the onrushing flames from heath fires. Rugby football matches were abandoned owing to tlie hardness of the grounds, and steeplechasing also was affected. The milk supply is decreasing and vegetables are scarce.
