’PLANE’S FORCED LANDING
ENGINE TROUBLE DEVELOPS. ASSISTANCE FROM BELL BLOCK. Through the ’piano developing engine trouble, Mr E. R. Bauche, president of the Auckland Aero Club, when flying from Auckland to New Plymouth on Saturday, made a forced landing at Pukearuhe, in the vicinity of Mr C. A. Wilkinson’s residence. The New Plymouth aerodrome was 'communicated with and Flying-Officer, lan Keith was given some indication of the nature of the engine trouble. Mr Keith and Mr A. Salter, instructor and ground engineer respectively to the Western Federated! (N. 1.) Flying Club, flew to the scene in the Federation Moth, ZK-ABP, carrying spare parts and tools. Mr Keith landed beside the Auckland machine and repairs were-ef-fected by Mr Salter. Damaged valve spring "gear was the cause of the trouble. After losing only an hour and a half at Pukearuhe, the Auckland pilot, who had with him Mr L. W. Shaw, secretary of the Auckland Aero Club as passenger, took off for the New Plymouth aerodrome in company with the Federation machine. Saturday night was spent at New Plymouth and the engine was again checked by Mr Salter before Messrs Boucher and Swan left, for Palmerston North yesterday.
