TROUBLE IN RUMANIA
COMMUNIST TURMOIL COURT MARTIAL PLANS (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph I Copyright.) LONDON, Feb. 17. The situation in Rumania is apparently highly inflammable. It is stated there is a considerable Communist movement throughout, the country which King. Carol is determined to suppress. . . Fighting at Bucharest in seven deaths and scores ‘of injuries. A total of 750 strikers will be courtniartialled.
The most dramatic incident was a strike leader brandishing a blazing torch and trying to encourage his comrades, who wore armed with steel rods, revolvers and other weapons, to face advancing troops, who fired a volley. The leader fell dead. All Rumanian garrisons are now mobilised on a war footing. The Govern- . merit’s position is hourly more difficult. ' A The police repulsed a Communist attack on the Royal R.miianifth train when it arrived with King Carol’s, brother, Queen Marie,_ from Belgrade. Fifty arrests were made. ■’ CLASHES IN ISALONICA SEVEN DEAD; 100 INJURED ATHENS, Feb. 17. Police and Communists clashes occurred at Salonica to-day. Seven were killed and 100 wounded. The worst trouble occurred when the, police raided a Communist club. The police were compelled to use revolvers, causing a rush to the staircase, which collapsed.
