FATE OF ELDERLY COUPLE
FEARS AT DUNEDIN. COTTAGE RAZED BY FIRE. (By Telegraph—Press Association). DUNEDIN, Feb. 17. A four-roomed cottage occupied bv an elderly couple, Mr. and Mrs Nieolson, was destroyed by fire early'yesterday morning at Company Bay,” about eight miles from Dunedin on the road to Portobello. The mysterious feature of tlie outbreak is that the occupants have not since been seen, but a close examination of the debris disclosed no signs of charred remains, although exhaustive inquiries by the police reveal no trace of the Nicolsons.
Tlie Opinion of the police is that the occupants of the house perished • otherwise some trace would have been, found in the ruins. Mr. Nicolson recently retired from the Public Works Department at Alexandra, and as he had been residing only a short time at Company Bay he was not well known in the, district.
