A meeting of the sports committee of the Eltham Dairy Company w-as held on Saturday, when it was decided to hold the annual sports at Ta'uimata Park in Eltham on 'Saturday, March 4. A programme of events, for w-hich good trophies were obtained, w-as arranged and it was decided also to hold a social and dance in the Eltham Town Hall on a date to be arranged.
.An area of between five and six acres of land, extending from Queen Street North to Oxford Street, has been offered free to the Alasterton Borough Council for utilisation as a camping and recreation ground by Mrs S. .Maw-ley, of Masterton. The area is to be known as the Mawley Memorial Recreation Reserve, and Mrs Alaw-ley has made a condition that the many beautiful native trees growing on the area are to be preserved. The ground presented to the town will lend itself admirably to development as a public reserve, and its acquisition will create new possibilities for beautifying the northern approach to Masterton. The suggestion has been made, that the area should be developed as a museum of native plants. The. native vegetation now on the area, it is pointed out, provides a splendid basis for such a scheme. ..
