South America is defaulting on an unprecedented scale owing to the fall in prices. . “Britain’s anxiety is still great regarding the world, but things in the Empire are more cheerful. Australia and New Zealand have -passed through deep waters and both apparently are well advanced towards recovery. South Africa’s virtual abandonment of the gold standard is stimulating industry and has started a mining shares boom.”
