BERLIN, Jaii, 30. Herr Adollpli Hitler, the Nazi leader, has been appointed as Chancellor arid Dr. von Papen as Vice-Chancellor. Dr. von Papen, besides being ViceChancellor, now becomas the Reich Commissioner for Prussia. News of Herr Hitler’s appointment to the Chancellorship spread like -wildfire through the city. Great crowds gathered outside the chancellory, and the police had to clear a way for liis carriage. One of Ilerr Hitler’is first steps will he the suppression of the Communist Party. General Schleicher is of the opinion that Herr Hitler’s appointment was President’s Hindeburg’s best escape from a perplexing situation. Herr Hitler’s spokesman says he has taken the oath of allegiance to the Republican Constitution and will rule legally.

Almost the Avhole nation opposes Herr von Patnen. who has been asked iby the President to form a government. Newspapers declare a clique of landowners has overthroAvn General von Schleicher and is noAv planning a dictatorship.
