SOUTH TARANAKI CRICKET

GOOD FORM IN COMPETITION BOWLING FEAT BY S. BETTS EIGHT WICKETS POE 11 PUNS. OLE BOYS .STILL IN LEAD. Conditions were perfect for the cricket on Saturday in the South Taranaki championship competition. Much good form was shown in all departments of the game and an outstanding 'howling feat was performed by S. Betts (Kaponga), who captured eight High School wickets for 11 runs. 'The best batting displays were given by Geary (Hawera B) and H. Barker (Old Boys), Three Kaponga batsmen retired unbeaten after the team had exceeded the score of their ! opponents. School and Hawera B, after making only 36 and 38 respectively in the first innings, put on a capital score in their second innings. ■Stratford B somewhat unexpectedly won from the A team and this altered the position of the ladder of championship points. Old Boys still lead, but Kaponga go into second place with ■Stratford and Hawera A level for third place. POSITION OF THE TEAMS.

KAPONGA ROUTS HIGH SCHOOL S. BETTS TAKES TOLL OF AATCKETS. SCHOOL’S STAND IN SECOND STRIKE. Kaponga had the simplest .of wins from High School. After dismissing the School team for 36, Kaponga put on 185 runs. Court, V. Betts and S. Betts retired when they reached about the school total. S. Betts was in rare bowling form and came through with an average of eight wickets for 11 runs.

Going in first, School made no stand against the bowling of S. Betts and xi. Eden, no player reaching double figures.

Kaponga put on 185 runs, scoring very quickly and three batsmen retiring.

School did much better in the second innings and had 153 runs on for six wickets at the call of time. Duke, Rogers and Pritchard all batted well, the last named bowled best for School and his average of six wickets for 52 was under the circumstances, meritorious.

OLD BOYS BEAT PATEA MARGIN OF 127 RUNS. H. BARKER’S GOOD DOUBLE. Old Boys had a very easv win from Patea, by a margin of 127 runs, scoring 217 to their opponents’ 90. H. Barker was outstanding in both batting and bowling, scoring 57 runs and ..getting six wickets for 42, a very satisfactory double. Herbert backed him well in batting and was unbeaten witn 48 at the end of the' innings. W. Barker was in great form behind the wickets and caught two and stumped one, allowing only three extras in all. Paterson and Gibbs did best for Patea, scoring 42 out of the total of 90, while Palmer was The most successful bowler.

STRATFORD A DEFEATED SURPRISE BY B TEAM. POINTS TABLE ALTERED. Stratford B sprung a surprise by winning most decisively in. its match with the A team and therefore altered the championship list, making Stratford A take a place below Kapooga and equal with Idawera A.
