PREPARING FOR CARNIVAL. NEXT WEEK’S GALA NIGHT. The results of the recent Taranaki championship meeting proved that Hawera has a very strong team- in all departments, as shown by. the fact that the club maintained the cham- - pionship for twelve events and held a long lead on Fitzroy for the championship banner. These facts, indicate that the carnival on Thursday next-at Hawora will he replete with attraction.
In addition to the swimming races ■ polo teams, both meii and girls, will be seen in action, the men playing Inglewood and the girls, meeting New. Plymouth. ” The club committee is fortunate ju securing the assistance of "Mr.’ W. J.” • Claringbold, an erstwhile champion < yy, swimmer and polo player who was, some years ago one. of the mainstays of the club and of swimming in Ha- -----y wera and he is now giving considerable time to the work of coaching.
