KAUPOKONUI BEACH

GALA DAY EVENING. The euchre and open air dance which concluded the gala on behalf of the Kaupokonui Beach funds on Wednesday were both very and drew large numbers of visitors. Motor ear headlights and a huge- campfire provided light. An organised programme of dances wjs arranged and proved replete with enjoyment, music being played by Air. O. W. Abbot on a piano, mounted on a motor lorry. A Alonte Carlo waltz was won bv Air. A. Palmer and partner and a in d y fox trot by Air. A. Rossi and partner. The M’s.C. were Messrs. L. Hughes and C. A. Burke. Extras were pieyed by Airs. Hilverton. There was keen competition at the euchre party and the prizes went to Airs AltCullum, Airs E. Long and Airs Symmoas, after a play-off between these three and Airs Instone. As a result of the gala a- profit of over £2O was realised.

CAMPING PARTIES. Nearly thirty tents were to he seen yesterday, on the flat above the river and a few across to the west. Campers have been exceedingly fortunate in having; such glorious weather, with an unwonted absence, of wind. Fresh visitors- recently include Mr and Mrs. A. Ross (Kaupokonui), Miami Airs L. Aludford (Otakeho), Air. anti Mrs. 'Shaw and Alt- and. Airs Kemp (Kaponga), Airs AV. J. McDonald, Aliss C. Duncan, Aliss B. Young (Otakeho). The beach and river have been in particularly good condition during the holiday season, though the river has at times been lower than usual as the result of the dry spell.
