(From Our Own Correspondent). TOWN BOARD AFFAIRS. REPORTS FOR THE MONTH. The adjourned monthly meeting of the Kapouga Town Board was held on Tuesday evening >vhen« the chairman, Commissioner A. R. Bates, presided. There were also present; Commissioners E. L. Abbott, \V. G. Cran, J. P. Gibson, R. A. Law And W.' Mair. Accounts totalling £931 odd were passed for payment. Of this amount salaries and wages absorbed £157, approximately £27 of which was refunded by the Unemployment Board for wages paid to unemployment workers. Anderson) reported for the month of December as follows; ‘‘Both, power plants ran without trouble during the period and the hearings of both turbines received minor overhauls to ensure a continuance of trouble-free running. Generation was only slightly affected by depleted stream flow and in consequence reasonably higli figures are again shown. A total of 50.160 units was generated in No. 2 power bouse showing an increase of 1530 unite on the figure lor the same period ol last year, while a bulk power purchase of 4020 units, plus 61 k.v.a., was made at a cost of £27 16s 3d, as compared with £sl 18s 9d last year. The total demand, however, shows a decrease of approximately 5300 units. “Reticulation faults were at a minimum during the month, the only interruptions worth noting being due to a momentary failure of the bulk power during stormy weather on the morning of the 11th, rendering it necessary to cut the power off the Manaia Road for about three minutes. Decorative lighting for the Christmas period was erected in the streets in accordance with the usual practice and the staff was otherwise engaged in repairing consumers’ service lines, cutting back trees, erecting machinery in the workshop and in testing and changing bouse meters etc. One new service line was erected at River lea and a domestic installation connected to the system thereby. _ 'The foreman (Mr. A. Melville) rei.'irted that during the month of December the water tables had been overhauled and a general cleaning up of the town had been carried out. An inspection of the drainage system showed everything to be working satisfactorily. The septic tank was also found ■) be in good order as was also the cemetery grountls. Airs. 'G. Flavell of Douglas is visiting Air and Mrs T. McMillan. Airs. J. Blair and son of Wellington, who have been staying with Mr and Airs. Corder. have left for AYellington via the Wairarapa district. Airs. Thurlow of Wanganui, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs F. Boyle, has returned to Wanganui. The Misses Fary have gone on an extended visit to Wellington.
