Mr O. Leach, of Waverley, piloted a Western Federated aeroplane from Wanganui to Hawera- to-day, where it will be .stationed for a few days for the use of Hawera trainees. The funeral of the late Mr. J. A. Douglas, which took place at Hawera yesterday was attended by friends from various parts of South Taranaki. The Rev. W. D. Morrison Sutherland conducted the services at the church and graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs. T. J. Allan. W. Chatterton, C. 10 Oliver, J. Kelly. 10. Meuli and J. GreenhiU. Many wreaths were sent as expressions of regard. Mr. W. C. Hankinson, of the Dominions Office, London, accompanied bv Mr. D. Arclill. of the Internal Affairs Department, Wellington, is at present on a visit to New Plymouth where he arrived last evening and was met hv the Mayor, Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths, "and the chairman of the laranaki Chamber of Commerce. Mr. A. F. Sandford. Mr. Hankinson to-day visited a number of farms, dairy factories and other undertakings of interest.

The weekly euchre party in aid of railway social hall improvements vas held in Hawera last evening, when there was a further large attendance of patrons. There was a- tie for the ladies’ first (prize between Mesdames Kelly, Freyno, Butler and Hurley, and in the play-off Mrs Kelly and Mrs Butler were first and second respectively. Similarly Messrs Campbell, Cairncross and Williamson tied for. the men’s first prize, and in the play-off Mr Williamson and Mr Campbell were first and second respectively. “Silent” prizes wore won by Mrs J. Bloor and Mr K. Murtagh.
