The Collector of Customs at Xew Plymouth, Mr J. M. O’Bielfly, who has ibeen in the public hospital for the past six weeks, is convalescing at his home. Bowlers at the reunion at Kawaroa Park last night extended congratulations to the Hawera Club and two of its members, M. J. Squire and H-.b-Maslin, on having won the Dominion pairs championship. ' Mr Walter H. Swanger, secretary cf the Wanganui Education Board, v-ill retire on superannuation at the end or the- month. His resignation was accepted yesterday, the Press Association reports. Board members paid tribute to his ability and knowledge of administrative methods of . education. Mr Swanger started m the hoard’s employ 37-. - years.-ago, and rose to the position of secretary ana treasurer in 1910.

Members of the Legal fraternity ni North Taranaki assembled in large numbers at the law library in be" Plymouth yesterday morning to farewell Mr. E. W. Tate, S.M., and to welcome his successor, Mr. >V- p-. Woodward, S.M. Both magistrates subseouentlv held sittings of the 1 oiico Court, Mr. Tate’s being bis last before retirement. In responding to the remarks of Mr. R. H. Quilliam. Crown solicitor and president ot the Taranaki District Law Society, Mr. Tate said he was genuinely sorrv to have to uproot himself from the place whero lie had established s<o many pleasant associations. Mr. Woodward thanked the practitioners for thenwarm welcome and said that ho was sure he would have- their hearty .cooperation. He would endeavour to follow the worthy example set by ms predecessor.
