FARM WORKERS WANTED
SINGLE MEN IN DEMAND
SITUATION IN SOUTH TARANAKI
“Single, men are required for farm work all over. South Taranaki and it is impossible to satisfy the demand,' said a member of the Hawera, Unemployed Relief Oomniiitee to. • & wera Star’’ reporter this morning. Ihe opinion was expressed that if the comnnttee could place married men as easily ns single men the problem ot unemployment so far as Hawera was concerned would soon be solved. Unfortunately the farmers m this district were unable to provide accommodation for married men. and the wao-es they could afford to pay were not'sufficient to keep their families, in town. With the exception of four men physically unfit for anything but lio-lit work, no names of single men nppeardd on the Hawera unemployment register. Under an arrangement with the Hawera Hospital Board all single men are medically examined and the committee insists that all who are able bodied must take up farm work or enter camps established ten the purpose of carrying out some public work. .
