CALF REARING

COMPETITION IN SCHOOLS. AWARDS OF THE JUDGES. Judging of children’s calves at the schools of the district commenced oh Wednesday, Wliakamara, Mere me re and Ohangai were visited by the party of judges, under the (aegis of the Boys and Girls’ Clubs. The judges were Messrs A. T. Wills (condition), H. Hodge (type), and Rod Svme (charts). In, all 53 calves were shown by the pupils. There were also nine yearlings. •Commenting on the young animals Mr. Wills said they were nearly all in capital condition and some were outstanding. He referred to three particularly good calves (at Whakamara which he could not separate. Mr. Hodge complimented the chilaren oil a marked improvement in dairy type, especially with the ShorthornFriesian class, the winner at Ohan.gaii being particularly good and full of ty The judges addressed the children at each school, pointing; put features or interest. , . ~ .
