WASTAGE OF HIDES
COSTS £8,000,000 IN DECADE. CARE IN BRANDING URGED. (United Press Association—Bv Electric Telegraph Copy right.) SYDNEY, Nov. 17. Within the past ten years wastage of hides due chiefly to careless brandincr slaughtermen’s knives and barbed wires has cost the Australian leather industry £8,000,000. The master tanners are appealing to to brand on the shoulder with letters not ■more than three inches in length. They declare that great damage is done through unsatisfactory branding and flaying, often amounting to 10s per skin.
