Frank Walter Barnes, aged 33, a butcher, was imprisoned to-dav for a series of impostures. He opened a butchery stocked with -meat obtained from three firms by false pretences and collected £62 from several voting .men whom' ho induced to deposit bonds on the understanding that lie would give them jobs. '■ The police said ft he majority* of the young men had been unemployed for a long time, and some had borrowed money for the bonds. Accused had been convicted at Timaru, Nelson, Christchurch and Wellington for false pretences. Accused was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment.
