QUESTION OF RECOGNITION. REPLY BY MINISTER, (By Telegraph—Presa Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 16. During the debate in flic House of Representatives on the vote for the Post and Telegraph Department to-day objection was raised by members of the Labour Party to the Government’s refusal to recognise the P. and T. Officers’ Association. The Hon. A. Hamilton said that at present it was not the Government’s permanent policy to grant recognition to the association, although he agreed that collective bargaining was better than individual bargaining. Mr M. J. Savage (Lab., Auckland West) moved that the passage of .tEe* Post and Telegraph estimates be postponed to enable the Minister to confer with the Post and 1 Telegraph Officers’ Association on the subject of collective bargaining.

This motion was mled out of order, -whereupon Mr Savage moved to report progress to enable the Minister to confer on the linos indicated. This was defeated by 33 votes to 17 and the vote was passed.
