WELLINGTON, Sept: 3. ■Before 5000 spectators Marist defeated the Millerton All Blacks by a goals to 0 at the Basin Reserve in the final of the Chatham Soccer Cup. Marist opened the attack and Turkiiigtou cleared. Bird, secured from the clearance, sending Kershaw and Marshment away, but a return pass was too fast for Marshall and went behind From half-way Young sent the hall skimming! over the heads of the backs to miss by inches. The game was very fast. Campbell saved from London but Marshment followed up and bundled 1 the goalie and the ball into the net. Five minutes later Marist were attacking again. Duilfy stopped Taylor. Adams crossed to Barton and Teichert attempted to close but Barton sidestepped and netted with a left-footer. Millerton forced a couple of corners. From one Kelly headed out from under the crossbar. At half-time the score was two to nil. The visitors liad given a very fine exhibition. Taylor came into the picture in the second spell but his shot was intercepted by Kelly. For a : time Marist defended vigorously. Bird cleared to tile right wing, Barton sending a hard drive into Campbell’s arms. Marist forced a corner, Kershaw netting direct. T. B. Blytli and Young made a good run across midfield, putting Newman in possession. A goal looked certain when Newman was tripped by a Marist back. J. Blytli missed with the penalty. Laracy, a Marist back, made a solo nun, but within a few yards of the goal Marshall was offside, spoiling the movement. Kershaw and Marshment with a brilliant movement put Millerton on the defence. Having drawn the backs lie crossed smartly and Barton netted.

Marist were lucky to escape with a free kick just outside the area for an offence which took place inside. Millerton were very unlucky and unable to finish many splendid moves. With about five minutes to go Barton registered the hat trick from Condon’s pass.

The trophy was presented to Bird, the Marist captain, by the GovernorGeneral, Lord Bledisloe, and the medals were presented to the winning team. The championship shield won by Marist was also presented.
