RAID ON BUTCHER’S SHOP
THIEVES CLEAR, CONTENTS. BURGLARY AT PENROSE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 3. A raid on a large scale was made by thieves at Penrose last night, when almost the entire stock of meat and small goods in 'Frederick Birdling’s butchery was stolen. Birdling remained at his shop until 10 o’clock last night cutting meat and arranging his orders for to-dav and the diplay of his goods for the window. When he reached his shop this morning he was astounded to discover the front door had been smashed and practically all of his stock of meat had been stolen. A pig,' a sheep, 1001 b of beef cut into joints, 501'b of steak, 301 b of veal, 201 b of sausages, 141 b of cooked ham, several dishes of brawn and several dozen pies were missing.
