The Federal Government, acting in conjunction with the State authorities, is taking drastic action to suppress Communist and similar legal organisations in New South Wales and Victori a.
The owners of premises at Sydney and Melbourne where Communist activities are carried on have been served with official notices prohibiting the holding of meetings by those bodies. The penalty of disobedience is a fine of £IOO, the default being imprisonment for six months. The State -police have been directed to insist on observance •of the law. The Commonwealth Attorney-Gen-eral, Mr. J. G. Latham, explained that since the Lyons Government took office 53 Communists had been deported.
