AMERICA BEATS BRITAIN. WALKER CUP CONTEST. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) NEW YORK, Sept. 2. At Brookline the United States team retained the Walker Cup to-day by beating the English challengers. The final score for the 12 matches iwas United States 94 points, Britain 24. The United States won eight matches, Britain one, and three matches were halved. Leonard Crawley, a British schoolmaster, won the only British victory, beating George Voiglit one up on the thirty-sixth •green. ELTHAM DEFEATS STRATFORD At the week-end a team of men from the Eltham Golf Club defeated Stratford by 11 games to 7. Eltham players are mentioned first in the following details: — Quin and Abbott lost to Green and Anderson 1 up and won 3 and 2. Wills and Cooper beat Morris and Neal 1 up and 1 up. Phillips and Gibson lost to Newell and Lyons 2 and 1 and won 1 up. H. R. Casey and J. Shaw beat Jeffries and Rutherfurd o and 3 and fc and 5. Morton and A. O. Casey lost to Burmester and Graham 4 and 2 and 2 and 1. Clemow and Arthur heat Armstrong and Wells 2 and 1 and lost 2 down. Lee and Free beat Penn and Urwin 1 up and 5 and 4 1 . McKay and McKay lost to Sullivan and Allen 2 and 1 and won 2 and 1. Jones and Fallowes beat Pegg and: Morey 2 up and lost 6 and 4. A team from the Hawera Golf Club visited Te Ngutu at the week-end and ■suffered defeat by three matches to nil, three being all square. The results were as follows, the Te Ngutu players being mentioned first; Fitzgerald and Todd beat Vinnicombe and Dingle. Hollis and Harris beat McAnerin and Batchelor. Stevenson and G.
