BOY SCOUTS. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Patea .Boy Scouts’ Association was held m the Borough Council Chambers .on Tuesday, CMr F*. Ranisbottom piesiding. The South Taranaki District Boy Scouts’ Association wrote advising that the quarterly meeting, of the association would be held in Eltham on Tuesday, August 9. Mr Pauling reported good progress by the Scouts, with an average of 21 members. Thanks were expressed to Mr Smaill, Mr B. Walton, Mr Hemingway, and the Girl Guides’ committee for valued assistance. Miss Williams reported that 25 Cubs were on the roll, and all were ready for enrolment. The boys had shown great keenness to learn. I The reports were adopted, pleasure being expressed at the progress made. The secretary was authorised to purchase 24 Tenderfoot badges each for Scouts and Cubs. SURF CLUB. The committee of the Patea. iSurf and Life-Saving Club met last Tuesday evening, Mr W. Lamb presiding. Those present were Messrs B. C'urrie, B. Adams, M. Fitzwater, H. ‘Williams, J. Boyle (secretary) Miss Roberts. Arrangements for members of the life-saving teams to start practices at the end of the month were made. Tho secretary reported that the dance had shown a credit of £l2' 10s, and accounts owing by the club amounted to £ll Ss Bd. These were passed for payment. After a conference with delegates from the Beach Improvement Society, it was pointed out that the Surf Club would have to keep its identity separate from the society, owing to rules of the Royal Life-saving Society, but it was agreed that there should he some representation on each- body from the other body. It was resolved, -therefore, that the society be recommended to elect representatives to meet representatives of tho club, forming a committee to work together for the interests of both clubs. Messrs Currie, Adams and Lamb were elected as the -club’s representatives, -to act until the annual meeting in October. GIRL GUIDES. The committee of the Patea Girl Guides’ Association met in the Borough Council Chambers on Tuesday, Mrs F. Ramsbottoin presiding. Mesdames G. Williams, T.. A. Prescott and Misses E. Williams, W. Kenworthv, and the hon. secretary were also present. Miss A. Gibbs, lieutenant in charge of the Alton Guides, wrote tendering her resignation. It was resolved that the resignation be accepted with regret, and that the committee place on record its appreciation of Miss Gibbs’ good work, and forward her a “Thanks” badge. The secretary reported a credit balance of £6 14s 4d. It was decided to hold the annual birthday in the Foresters ’ Hall on Wednesday, August 31, at -5.15 p.m., to be followed by a concert at 7.30 p.m. Mrs R-amsbottom offered to donate the birthday cake again. An account for £1 7s 6d was passed for payment, and the meeting then rose.
