ADVANCE IN AUSTRALIA

DAIRY INDUSTRY OUTPUT BIG DROP IN PRICE OFFSET RUTTER PRODUCTION HIGHER. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 2.15 p.m., to-day. SYDNEY, July 28. The farmers’ conference at Hawkesbury College discussed the development of dairying. It was stated that the 30 per cent, fall in prices was balanced in New South Wales by increased production. The indications were that the expansion of the industry would be great and continuous. Inland production could cover the winter and early sx>ri:>g months so that large quantities of butter could be exported all the year round, thus bridging the difference lie-' tween summer and winter orices. It was estimated that the New South Wales production of butter should reach 100,000 tons and the Australian 300,000 tons before long. . Mr. Mclnnes, director of dairying, sounded a warning against the unregulated storage of butter as when the present restrictions were- removed lieland would dump in England a large tonnage of butter rendered jnierioi by- storage, thus smashing the market p'robably“at the time when the Australian ' exports were again .appreciatin? The re-organisation of the methods of marketing meat was urged with m improved grading system and killing in country centres, which would thus avoid centralisation in the metropolitan works.
