HUGE CROWD AT DERBY
OWNER-TRAINER’S VICTORY. TELEVISION OF RACE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) LONDON, June 1. The crowd at Epsom for the Derby was so big and traffic so heavy that many never reached the Downs. The King’s car was guided to Epsom by wireless operated by aeroplane observers, who followed the Royal Arms painted on top of the car and notified the police of its coming. The winner of the Derby, April the Fifth, was bought by Mr. Walls, the owner-trainer, as a yearling for 200 guineas. Mr. Walls was at one time a jockey riding in Australia and elsewhere.
A television experiment was successful. Two thousand people in the Victoria Theatre saw the race on .the screen from start to finish and finally saw the three horses pass the post Everything was easily visible.
