DIFFICULTIES IN .CANTERBURY. RELIEF MEASURES URGENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, June 1. The difficulties facing Grown tenants ancl the urgency of some measure oi relief either by remissions of rent 01 valuation of land, or both, were discussed at a largely-attended meeting in Ashburton to-day, when Crown tenants met members of the Canierburj Land Board. Sir William Nosworthy, speainng for the high country tenants, said they asked that all remissions of rent be wiped out and all Grown rents reduced 60 per cent. Speaking for soldier settlers, Mr. C. C. Wynn presented the following points: (1) Reduction of capital value of at least 331-3 per cent.; (2) writing off of accumulated arrears : (3) reduction of interest on current accounts by 5 per cent.; and (4) a review of individual current accounts in the light of arrears paid from them. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr. Stewart, said remissions could be dealt with by the board, Out, the other suggestions would be forwarded to the Government.
