Rough seas caused by the gale banked up the sand on the beach, and when the tide went out miniature lakes were left in the vicinity of Muriwai Creek. A woman who visited these ponds found them teeming with fish, and with her hands she scooped out 14 John Dory, three schnapper, a sea trout and a gurnard.
