GAOL FOR THREE YEARS
THEFT BY TOWN- CLERK. MOSGIEL BOROUGH FUNDS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, May 27. Mr. Justice Kennedy sentenced Henry Butcher, aged 60, an ex-town clerk" of Mosgiel borough, to three years’ imprisonment for the theft of £1832 over a period of six years. The Crown Prosecutor mentioned that accused had stolen £44 of contributions to the Hawke’s Bay earthquake fund. The offences were aggravated by the forging of receipts, which made detection difficult.
