A cable message received -yesterday stated the New Zealander. Lovelock, representing Oxford University in a match against the Amateur Athletic Association team won the mile in 4 min. 12 see., a British amateur record.
OTAGO’S CONG RATULATIONS

The Otago Centre has cabled Lovelok congratulations on his recordbreaking feat. Air. Alacassey, president of the centre, said this morning that no time should be lost by the New Zealand Council in approaching the Olympic Council with a view to having Lovelock included in the New Zealand Olympic team. AUCKLAND ENDORSES SUGGESTION. AUCKLAND, Alay 28. The Auckland centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association is recommending that Lovelock he sent from England to represent New Zealand at the Olympic Games, expenses to be defrayed from the Rose fund.
