CHARITY BALL

NEW PLYMOUTH ASSEMBLY

The annual charity hall held at New Plymouth last evening under the auspices of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, attracted a large and representative attendance to the Agricultural Hall which was gaily decorated for the occasion.

Archbishop O’Shea was present and expressed Ins pleasure at seeing tiie attendance of so many. He congratulated all who had worked so hard in the furtherance of Christian charity. The Mayor, Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths, welcomed the Archbishop and paid a glowing tribute to the work of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in the town of New Plymouth. The debutants were then presented to His Grace the Archbishop, among them were the following from Hawera and other parts of South Taranaki: Miss Ruby Winthrop, Kaupouonui: Powder blue crepe suede frock falling to the ankles, pale blue satin shoes and posy of cream flowers. Miss Noreen Fake, Utham: Cream georgette rroek, jacket of cream chenille "georgette, fur-trimmed and posy of pale pink luculia and fern. Miss Alice Deegan, Auroa: A frock of turcpioise blue georgette and a posy of shaded pink flowers, luculia, daphne and roses. Miss Kathleen McPhilips, New Plymouth, formerly of Manaia, wore an ivory satin gown, also a wrap of cream velvet with ruched collar lined with faint pink and posy of cream and j.vnJi blossoms. ~ ...
