PROBLEMS FACING FRANCE
HERRIOT AND TARDIEU MEET. COALITION POSSIBILITIES. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) PARIS, May 24. M. Herriot and M. Tardieu meet this afternoon in the presence om the President, tM. Lo Brun. Many are hopeful that the meeting may result in an exchange of views which will make possible the co-operation of M. Tardieu with fne present members of the Cabinet and even the establishment of a national Government, which is being widely discussed. It is admitted that France is faced with a serious position at home and abroad. On the one hand the Socialists are demanding a large reduction in military expenditure, •while M. Herriot states there is no intention of risking French security, and the keynote of his policy is to insist on the rights possessed by France by the virtue of existing treaties.
The general belief, however, is that France is not yet Teady for a national Government, and that the country will be represented at the Lausanne reparations conference by the Radicals, neither the Socialists nor M. Tardieu's moderates being included.
