LIVING ON CHARITY
GAOL FOR AN IMPOSTOR. POSED AS MARRIED. AUCKLAND, May 22. For imposing on charity, Alfred James Potter, aged 50, saddler, was sent to gaol for three months this morning by Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M. Potter pleaded guilty to a charge deeming him to be a rogue and vagabond in that he .mposed on the Hospifcu and 'Charitable Aid Board by falsely representing that he was a married n Detective-Sergeant Kelly said Potter had been imposing on the hoard for the past two years or so. He first came under notice in February, 1928, 'wkea he represented to the board that he hud a wife and three children. In reality he was a widower with no children and with a woman acquaintance he had been living on the proceeds of charity wrongly obtained. ''Potter is also a man with a criminal history, added Mr Counsel said accused was at present on relief work and was willing to make restitution if given a chance. Without comment, the magistrate sen teneed Potter to three months miI prisonment. —‘ ‘ Dominion” service.
