EDGAR WALLACE’S WREATHS
REFUND OF DUTY PAID. LONDON, May 14. It has just been revealed that when the body'of Mr. Edgar Wallace was landed at Southampton from Amercia, the -sum of 30s was demanded by the Customs as import duty on floral tributes which had been placed on the coffin l>v American admirers. The duty, which is payable on cut flowers, was .paid by the undertakers, although they were very much surprised to receive the demand. Those concerned in the shipment ot the flowers were very indignant, and a polite demand was made for the matter to be reconsidered. Their venues! lias met with a- sympathetic response, and the amount of duty paid has now been refunded.
