RIFLE SHOOTING

SHIELD CHANGES HANDS. KAPONGA BEAT NEW PLYMOUTH. On Saturday a team representing the Kaponga Defence Rifle Club defeated a New Plymouth Defence Rifle Club team in a match for the Taranaki Associated Rifle Clubs’ challenge shield, which has been in the possession of the New Plymouth club for several years. 'Conditions on the Rewa hewa range were tricky, the light Being poor and a strong wind prevailing. Ten members comprised each team, the best eight scores over 300, 500 and 600 yards be : ing carded. J. Robinson, New Plymouth, recorded a total of 99 of a possible 105. The most creditable performance was that of Miss A. Bell, who, in her first competitive match, made a total of 94, 31 at 300 yards, 31 at 500 yards and 32 at 600 yards.
