Mr C. H. Barratt, for 32 years employed by the Wellington Gas Company, dropped dead in his garden on Sunday morning, states a Wellington Press Association message. 'Deceased for a long period had been closely associated -with religious and reform movements in Wellington. Mr. T. M. Geddis lias been elected chairman of the Napier Harbour Board in succession to Mr. A. EL. Jull who occupied the position for 22 years, states a Press Association message from Napier.
Following injuries received in a collision with a horse and gig driven by William M. Corrigan, of Tirimoana, the death occurred at a private hospital in Eltham this morning of Ernest Pereival Martin. At the time of the accident Martin was riding a motor cycle in the direction of Eawhitiroa. An inquest opened to-day before the district coroner at the Eltham courthouse. Miss E. James, who is making a walking tour from North Cape to Bluff, raised a laugh at a reception at Geraidine recently, says the “Tiniaru Herald.” Describing the beginning of her toiir, she said that in due course she reached the Ninety-Mile Beach, where she was introduced to “Wizard” Smith, who, when he heard that she proposed to walk 1600 miles, said “Go •home to bed—you will 'never do it!” When she reached Wellington she sent him a note stating that she had walked 900 miles, and asking what he had done as far as records were concerned.
