OPIUM SMUGGLING
FALSE BOTTOMS TO TINS.
CHINESE HEAVILY FINED.

Among a complete paraphenalia for opium smoking produced in the Police Court were two ingeniously constructed fruit tins bearing labels “egg fruit.” Both tins had false bottoms, in which the police suggested that opium was brought to New Zealand. As the result of a raid on Saturday, Ah Poy and Young »Sew were charged with smoking prepared opium.' Sew was also charged that, being the occupier of premises, he permitted smoking. Poy was fined £2O and Sew £SO for permitting smoking, also £l2 10s for smoking.
