HIKURANGI MINERS STRIKE
PROTEST OVER DISMISSALS. SAFETY MEN ON DUTY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WHNAGAREI, May 23. As the outcome of a meeting of the Hikurangi Miners’ Union on Sunday, men employed in the Hikurangi Coal Mine, numbering 130 have, gone 'on strike. Twenty-two safety men remain on duty. The meeting passed the following resolution: ‘‘That the men reaffirm the previous decision to down tools' until notices of dismissal to 55 men who have been discharged are withdrawn. They wish to discuss with the company the sharing of work and in meantime have decided not to resume work.”
