BUSHMAN LOSES LEG
CRUSHED BY FALLING TREE. AUCKLAND, May 19. Crushed beneath a fallen tree on Tuesday, Mr. Peter McGuire, aged 60, a bushman engaged at Arahiwi, between Mctmaku and Hotorua, received severe injuries, which later liecessitated the amputation of his right leg. Mr. McGuire was felling a tree and was unable to get clear in time before it crashed on to him. He was wedged beneath the heavy trunk and Ins comrades had difficulty in extricating him. In great 'pain lie was taken a considerable distance to the Arahivc 1 siding, to which the Rotorua ambulance was summoned. _ , „ When halfway back to Rotorua Dr. Wallace met the ambulance and gave the injured man treatment. Mr. McGuire was admitted to the iking George V Hospital shortly after 9 p.m. and an amputation was performed later in the night—“ Dominion Service.
