TOLL OF BOMBAY RIOTS

LIST OF 146 PEOPLE DEAD OVER 1600 INJURED. SEVEN DAYS OF OUTRAGE. (Unite! Ftcss Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) CALCUTTA, May 22. Apart from isolated attacks and excitement over the round-up of hundreds of riot suspects, conditions are normal again in Bombay after seven days of murder, looting and arson. The casualties total 146 dead and 1657 injured. Many streets in the Moslem and Hindu quarters are still littered with debris from the looting, but confidence has been restored and many of the 10,000 citizens who fled from the city are returning. BLAME ON CONGRESS. INCITING ANTAGONISM. Received 11.20 a.m., to-day. CALCUTTA, May 22. The newspaper “Statesman” places the lull blame for the Bombay riots on the Congress which, it says, has for years been deliberately exhorting Indians to defy law and authority and has helped to feed the flames of HinduMoslem antagonism.
