In the committee stages of the Imports Duties Bill in the House of Commons Major Lloyd George moved an amendment providing that the imposition of the 10 per cent, duty should be the subject of inquiry and report. The amendment was defeated by 293 votes to 61.
Sir Stafford Cripps, moving that the duties should operate on November 15 instead of March L, said Britain ought not to be bound before the Ottawa Conference. The amendment was defeated without a division.
