CELEBRATION ARRANGEMENTS THANKSGIVING AND ORATION PIONEERS TAKE PART IX PR.OCESSION.

The Hawera Jubilee Committee desires all pioneers to know that special cars will be provided for those who wish to take part in the procession next Wednesday. If is requested that they assemble at the tower grounds gates, High Street, by 12.J0 p.m. on rebruar\ 24, where cars wnl await them.

During the carnival festivities next week all are requested to wear ribbons designating the year of their arrival m Hawera. The fifty years since ltSSg has been divided into, periods of ten years and those who arrived here prior to 1882 should wear royal purple, those whose arrival dates between 1882 and 1892 should wear red, 1892 to 1902 royal blue, 1902 to 1912 apricot, 1912 to 1922 brown, and 1922 to 1932 pink. Whatever the date of one’s arrival a ribbon to represent that period is available, and residents are asked to wear it during the period of the jubilee. TO-MORROW’S ARR ANG EM ENTS. It is appropriate that the jubilee for which Hawera has been planning for months should commence with a thanksgiving service. To-morrow at 2.30, at the showgrounds, the public are invited to a service of thanks and praise. The service will be conducted by the Hawera Ministers’ Association and the Rev. E. S. Emmitt will deliver the address. The Jubilee Choir, under the baton of Mr. Charles Lamb, will lead the massed singing and in addition render two anthems, the “Gloria” from Mozart’s Twelfth Mass, and the Hallelujah Chorus. Special hymn sheets will be provided. If wet, the service will he held in the Opera House.

At 8.1-5 p.m. to-morrow in the Opera House the Jubilee Choir of one hundred and fifty voices, accompanied by a full svmphonv orchestra conducted by Mr. "H. C. A. Fox. will render Haydn’s glorious oratorio “The Creation.” No more beautiful work could have been chosen for the occasion and music-lovers are assured of a performance of exceptional merit. Further reference to the oratorio appears in the “World of Music” to-day. An open invitation is extended to all who fifty or more years ago resided within five miles of the Hawera post office to meet the pioneers a f afternoon tea in the Presbyterian Hall on Friday, February 26, at 3 p.m. The jubilee committee sincerely hopes that all who can be regarded as Hawera old identities will accept this opportunity of meeting those who so nobly blazed the trail of the early eighties. One of the outstanding events of the Hawera Borough Jubilee celebrations next week will be the plain and fancy dress ball at the Winter Show Buildings on the Friday, for which elaborate preparations have’ been made. The scheme of decorations for the occasion has taken weeks to evolve and a decidedly spectacular effect is promised, eclipsing anything yet seen in Hawera. Special supper arrangements have been made andl the music will be supplied bv Wills’ Melodymakers.
